Getting to Know the Pineapple
Pineapple (Ananas comosus) is a tropical plant belonging to the Bromeliaceae family. Native to South America, this aromatic fruit is notable for its compound structure consisting of up to 200 flowers. The arrangement of the leaves at the top of the fruit follows the Fibonacci pattern, making it botanically quite interesting. Called "pineapple" by European travelers due to its shape resemblance, the pineapple became a symbol of luxury in Europe from the 17th century onwards. After the 1820s, its commercial cultivation became widespread, and its fruit and juice found a wide range of uses in cooking and cosmetics.
