Pelargonium Hydrosol
Getting to Know Pelargonium
The sweet-scented Pelargonium (Pelargonium graveolens) is a shrub with an intense fragrance reminiscent of a blend of rose and citrus.
Cultivated for centuries for its distinctive fragrance, this plant, with its small pink flowers arranged in bouquets, is also prized as an ornamental plant.
The Pelargonium genus derives its name from the shape of its fruit, which resembles a stork's beak, from the Greek word pelargos. The species Graveolens derives its name from the strong scent of its leaves, and graveolens means strong-smelling in Latin.
Therapeutically, Pelargonium is also known for its numerous properties, particularly its bactericidal and regenerative properties. Pelargonium graveolens is used in traditional medicine to treat a variety of ailments.
It brings the archetypal energy of Aphrodite, protects femininity, and enhances self-esteem. It supports emotional balance, providing warmth and comfort during moments of existential crisis. It alleviates depression and low self-esteem. It is widely used in women's fertility rituals and helps create a positive environment. With a scent similar to roses, geranium has a calming and mind-balancing effect.
Folk tales say that the geranium flower is beneficial for health, love, and protection, warding off negativity and boosting morale.
Red geraniums, in particular, are believed to have a protective effect, strengthening one's health. When planted near the hut of an evil person, these flowers were believed to warn strangers not to approach the hut. Pink-flowered geraniums, especially those with rose scents, were said to bring love, while white ones were said to increase fertility.
