ITIR HYDROSOL

Let's Get to Know Geraniums

The sweet-smelling geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) is a shrub with an intense fragrance reminiscent of a mix of rose and citrus.

Cultivated for centuries for its characteristic scent, this plant has small pink flowers that grow in bouquets and is also appreciated as an ornamental plant.

The genus Pelargonium gets its name from the shape of its fruit, which resembles a stork's beak (pelargos in Greek). The species Graveolens derives its name from the strong scent of its leaves, with graveolens meaning "strongly fragrant" in Latin.

Therapeutically, geranium is known for its numerous properties, particularly its antibacterial and regenerative qualities. Pelargonium graveolens is used in traditional medicine to treat various ailments.

It brings the archetypal energy of Aphrodite, preserves femininity, and increases self-esteem. It supports emotional balance during existential crises, providing warmth and comfort. It alleviates depression and low self-esteem. It is commonly used in women's fertility rituals and helps create a positive atmosphere. With a fragrance similar to roses, geranium has a calming and mind-balancing effect.

In folk tales, geraniums are said to be beneficial for health, love, and protection, warding off negativity and boosting morale.

Red geraniums, in particular, were believed to possess protective qualities that strengthened one's health. When planted near the hut of a malevolent person, these flowers were thought to warn strangers to stay away. Pink geraniums, especially those with a rose-like scent, were said to bring love, while white geraniums were believed to increase fertility.
