LINDEN HYDROSOL

Peace and Eternal Love

Let's Get to Know Linden

Linden (Tilia) is a genus of trees belonging to the Malvaceae (mallow) family, growing in the temperate and semi-tropical regions of the Northern Hemisphere.

Its leaves are heart-shaped, generally asymmetrical, and 6–20 cm long.

Its flowers are rich in nectar and attract hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies. The tree's soft wood provides nesting sites for birds that live in hollows.

The linden tree is a beautiful and magnificent flowering tree. In ancient times, it was believed that people could forget their sorrows and problems and feel like children again by spending a night under its fragrant branches. After a wedding ceremony, the first thing a bride would do was sit under a linden tree. It was believed that there she would be visited by the angel of happiness, who would bestow peace and eternal love upon her.

In Central Europe, many villages used to have linden trees. Located in the center, they served as meeting points. News was exchanged there, and brides would present themselves. Dance festivals were held under these trees in early May.

Linden trees have been observed to live up to 1000 years. In Türkiye, there are numerous linden trees that are over 500 years old.

In Scandinavian mythology, the linden tree is associated with Freya, the goddess of love and fertility, and Frigga, the goddess of love and marriage. Later in history, Romans in Slavic regions viewed the linden tree as a symbol of stability and marital love.

In Slavic mythology, the linden tree is believed to be sacred and is considered 'holy' in many Eastern European countries, resulting in many villages and towns being named after it.

In China, the linden tree, known as the tree of forgetfulness, is believed to tame a rebellious heart and bring clarity.

In Greece and Eastern Europe, the linden tree has been used in numerous rituals related to divination, marriage, fertility, and healing.

In Romania and other Slavic countries, the linden tree was believed to have a divine presence and to be a link between life and death.

In Germany, the tree symbolized justice and peace. Often planted in city centers, linden trees were used as a place for arbitrators, as it was believed that one could not lie under their shade.

In Poland, the tree was planted in front of houses to ward off evil spirits and lightning (many cultures believe lightning will not strike the tree) and to ensure stability in the home.
