SIDR LEAF HYDROSOL

Let's Get to Know the Sidr Plant

Ziziphus spina-christi, also known as Christ's Thistle or Arabian Cherry, is a thorny, evergreen tree or shrub. The plant belongs to the genus Ziziphus and the family Rhamnaceae.

It appears that the tree and its parts were used in pharaonic times (for carpentry), in nutrition, and in medicine. The tree's fruits and leaves were used in the preparation of ancient Egyptian dishes and cultural practices. Egyptian villagers made bread from sidr until the early 20th century.

Sidr leaves, also known as jujube leaves, are obtained from the Ziziphus tree. They are known for their medicinal and cosmetic properties.

Sidr (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) held a special status as a "sacred tree" among Muslims, Jews, and Christians in the Middle East, believed to be magical and revered due to historical events.

Muslim and Christian pilgrims and travelers described Z. spina-christi as a large tree growing in Arabia and Jerusalem. The tree was often recorded as a symbol of its uses and holiness.

Also known as Arabian Cherry, Ziziphus spina-christi is a plant with significant cultural and historical background. It is associated with the crown of thorns placed on the head of Jesus Christ.

In Christian tradition, the tree is identified with the thorny bush from which Jesus was crowned before his crucifixion. This is also the source of its scientific name (spina-christi).

Pilgrims, believing that Jesus' crown of thorns was made from these branches, took the tree's branches back to their homelands as souvenirs.

In ancient Egypt, sidr was one of the most commonly used bow woods. It was considered a first-class bow wood because the texture of its branches was very tight and dense, while also feeling very flexible and lightweight.
